How to Reach Heidelberg and the Symposium Venue

Heidelberg Overview

Heidelberg, located in the southwest of Germany, is one of the country's most beautiful cities, famous for its historic university, stunning old town, and its proximity to the Neckar River. 


By Air

Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is the closest major airport to Heidelberg, located about 80 km away.

From Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg:

  • By Train: Direct trains from Frankfurt Airport (Frankfurt Flughafen) to Heidelberg (Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof) run approximately every hour and take around 50 minutes. You can catch the train at the long-distance train station (Fernbahnhof), located at Terminal 1. At the moment very few direct trains are available and a transfer to Darmstadt or Mannheim is required. Tickets can be bought directly at the Airport train station or through the website.
  • By Shuttle Service: There are also private shuttle services that offer direct airport transfers to Heidelberg: Lufthansa Shuttle, tickets can be bought here. FlixBus, tickets can be bought here.
  • By Car: If you prefer to drive, Heidelberg is about an hour away via the A5 Autobahn.

By Train

Heidelberg is well connected to the German and European train networks. The city can easily be reached with several train connections from France, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands.


By Taxi

A taxi from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg takes about 50 minutes to 1 hour. The cost typically ranges from €120 to €160. Taxis are readily available at the airport or can be pre-booked through various services for convenience.


Reaching the Symposium Venue

The Conference venue is located on the Im Neuenheimer Feld campus of the University of Heidelberg, just north of the Neckar River.

From Heidelberg Main Station (Hauptbahnhof):

By Tram:

  • Take Tram Line 21 or 24 towards "Handschuhsheim" or "Burgstraße".
  • Get off at the stop Bunsengymnasium or Jahnstraße.
  • From either stop, it’s a 5-10 minute walk to the New Krehl Klinik at INF 410.

By Bus:

  • Take Bus Line 37 towards "Universitätsplatz".
  • Get off at Chirurgische Klinik or Medizinische Klinik.
  • The building is a short walk from these stops.

By Taxi:

  • A taxi from Heidelberg Main Station to INF 410 takes approximately 10-15 minutes.

From Heidelberg City Center (Bismarckplatz):

By Tram:

  • Take Tram Line 21 or 24 towards "Handschuhsheim".
  • Get off at Bunsengymnasium or Jahnstraße, and walk 5-10 minutes to INF 410.
