Dear colleagues and friends,
We would like to cordially invite you to the Academic Memorial Symposium for Harald zur Hausen, who passed away in May 2023. From 1983 until 2003 he was Chairman and Scientific Director of the German Cancer Research Center and later received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008 for his discovery that human papilloma viruses cause cervical cancer. His passion for science was pursued by him to the very end.
The symposium will take place on March 18th, 2024 from 09:30 am in Heidelberg at the German Cancer Research Center. It will combine scientific presentations with a commemoration of Harald zur Hausen.
All speakers and lecture topics have a connection to him, be it scientific or personal. The symposium will be jointly opened by the mayor of the City of Heidelberg as Harald zur Hausen was an honorary citizen of Heidelberg.
