The International Conference on Cancer Prevention is a flagship event series hosted by the National Cancer Prevention Center (NCPC), a strategic partnership between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and German Cancer Aid. This initiative is in line with the German National Decade against Cancer and serves as a concerted effort to highlight the importance of cancer prevention research.
Scope of the conference
Cancer continues to be a major burden for our society. By 2040, we expect an incidence of 30 million people per year and thus a sharp increase in the number of patients and – fortunately – survivors. Prevention is one of the most important strategies to counteracting this trend. It has considerable potential that has not yet been sufficiently exploited. Unfortunately, cancer prevention research is still a very small research field – compared to the potential that cancer prevention has.
For the German Cancer Research Center and the German Cancer Aid, cancer prevention has been a high priority for several years as there is an ongoing urgent need for further comprehensive prevention research: we need to better understand how cancer develops, how the relevant processes can be detected, delayed or even prevented, and how new research results can be implemented.
This year we are once again making every effort to put together a comprehensive and exciting program that reflects current trends in cancer prevention research and its implementation. We are looking forward to bringing together scientists in the field of cancer prevention research from around the world to pool research expertise and promote scientific exchange.
